Pak students win 9 bronze medals

Four teams of talented Pakistani students participating in international academic competitions held in Taiwan, Turkey, Netherlands and Thailand have returned bearing medals and honourable mentions.

The teams, altogether, won nine bronze medals and received four honourable mentions in the 22nd International Biology Olympiad held in Taipei, Taiwan; the 43rd International Chemistry Olympiad in Ankara, Turkey; 52nd International Mathematical Olympiad in Amsterdam, Netherlands; and the 42nd International Physics Olympiad held in Bangkok, Thailand.

They were selected from National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Faisalabad, Husein Ebrahim Jamal Research Institute, Karachi University, Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences, Government College University Lahore and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences Islamabad.

The 22nd IBO was hosted by Taiwan, where all members of the Pakistani team won bronze medals in the event, wherein 220 students from 59 countries participated, says a press release issued here by HEC.

The 42nd International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) was hosted by Thailand, where a total of 400 students from 84 countries participated in the Olympiad.

The 43rd International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) was hosted by Turkey. Over 270 students from 70 countries participated in the event.

The 52nd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) was hosted by The Netherlands from July 16 24, 2011. As many as 564 students from 101 countries participated in the event.
