SNV, the convener of the domestic biogas working group of the Energy for All Partnership, together with HIVOS and Indonesia Domestic Biogas Program organized a three-day international workshop entitled “Domestic biogas programs in Asia: transformation towards commercial sectors and development of effective financing facilities” on 22-24 November 2011 in Bandung, Indonesia. More than 60 participants from 17 countries joined the event, representing government institutions, private and civil society organizations, knowledge centers, development agencies, multilateral banks, and international donors.
The workshop discussed in-depth the transformation of national biogas programs to commercial biogas sectors. The event also looked into the proposed Asian Rural Biogas Facility, which is currently being developed and planned to be operational by 2012. The facility will consist of two separate funds, i.e., the regional structured debt fund initiated by the German Development Bank (KfW) and the ADB and the regional basket grant fund to further develop biogas markets in both existing and new countries.
This is the third major gathering of the domestic biogas working group, following its first meeting in November 2009 in Nepal and the second meeting in November 2010 in Cambodia. The following are the presentations made during the workshop:
